Announcing an ERP Business Transformation for the University of Illinois System

Dear colleagues,
The University of Illinois System is launching a Business Modernization and Transformation effort to replace our long‑standing Banner system with a modern, cloud‑based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform. This is a business‑led effort to improve the core processes that support teaching, learning, research, and daily operations across our universities.
Modern ERP platforms allow us to rethink and strengthen how work gets done, enabling:
- Streamlined and standardized business processes
- Reduced duplication and manual workarounds
- Improved integration and stronger data integrity
- Real-time analytics to support better decisions
- A more intuitive and consistent user experience
Because these changes affect how we work, the initiative will be designed and guided by faculty, staff, and students who know our processes best. Executive sponsorship will be provided by the System’s Executive Vice President and VP for Academic Affairs (Jones) and the Vice President, CFO, and Comptroller (Ellinger).
A readiness program has already begun, and there will be many opportunities to learn more, participate, and share feedback throughout the project.
