Veterans Day
Dear Campus Community Members, Veterans Day will be observed as a federal holiday on Saturday, November 11, 2023. On Veterans Day, we celebrate and honor the courageous individuals who have sacrificed for the common good and express our profound gratitude for their service. It is a day dedicated to acknowledging the sacrifices made, the challenges faced, and the unwavering dedication of our veterans to make us safe and free. As an institution, we embrace and support our employees and students for their military service and are working to build a more vibrant and empowering veteran community. We recognize that the transition from active service to civilian life in higher education can be challenging and we work to assist veterans in this journey. We shape our policies to be inclusive of veteran’s needs, provide academic advising and counseling services to promote success and adjustment, promote inclusive design for campus facilities, provide networking opportunities specifically for veterans, and provide financial aid and scholarships tailored to veteran needs. On our campus, hundreds of current employees and students have served or continue to serve. Each veteran has a unique and deeply personal narrative, defined by acts of bravery, unwavering determination, and selfless sacrifice. We encourage all veterans to self-identify; for employees follow these steps and students can fill out this form. Knowing who our veterans are helps our institution in providing assistance, support, and resources to you. The university joins the nation, on Veterans Day and every day, to offer our utmost respect and recognition for the contributions of our veterans and their families, caregivers, and survivors have made to the cause of freedom and safety around the world. Thank you for your service. If you have any questions or require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Chez Veterans Center, Illinois Human Resources, or the Office for Access and Equity.
