Dear students:

Welcome to a new academic year! Our three University of Illinois System universities are brimming with new and returning students, both on campus and online. Whether this is a new experience for you or a further step down a familiar path, I am overjoyed that you are with us.

As we settle into our routines, catch up with friends and widen our social and academic networks, please keep in mind that we each bring unique experiences and perspectives. Each time we gather to form this vast community of ideas, beliefs and personalities, it’s an opportunity to learn from each other and to expand our horizons.

As we get back up to speed on a new year, please be mindful of opportunities – large or small – to support each other. Each member of our community should feel welcomed and positioned to grow and thrive.

It’s an exciting time. In the tradition of those of us who preceded you on this journey, I would encourage you to explore, to learn, to question, to believe, to grow. And along the way, your passion, leadership, knowledge and insights will shape the world in which we live, now and into the future.
