Classes will meet Wednesday. Campus remains open
January 24, 2023 5:30 PM

Classes will meet Wednesday as scheduled and normal campus operations should be maintained.

Several inches of snow accumulation are expected overnight and into the early morning hours, but our Facilities and Services crews will be working diligently through the night to clear roads, sidewalks and parking lots.

For faculty members and instructors who wish to change the modality of their classes to accommodate the inclement weather tomorrow, please consult your departmental policies and with your unit executive officer. Also, please make sure any changes to the course delivery are communicated to the affected students as soon as possible.

The residential and research aspects of our operations make closing impossible, so staff members are expected to fulfill their regular work responsibilities. Extreme weather does not change the need for an individual employee to notify their supervisor of the absence. Normal leave reporting processes and requirements apply to leave used to cover weather-related absences.

If, for safety reasons, employees feel they need to leave early or are unable to commute to campus, they should use vacation/personal leave as applicable. In cases where an employee may not have accrued vacation/personal leave, departments may authorize an approved absence without pay. Employees with questions regarding requesting absence time due to weather conditions should consult with their supervisors. University employees can find more detailed information about inclement weather policies here and a list of some frequently asked questions here. In addition, and if appropriate for one’s position, remote work may be utilized if approved by a supervisor.

While we are planning for normal academic operations tomorrow, the morning hours are still likely to be messy. Please plan on extra time to get to work or to class and as always, please exercise caution and care when you are outside.

We will monitor the weather throughout the night, and we will be prepared to reevaluate our operational plans if conditions are significantly worse than predicted. Please monitor your university email for any updates.

Sincerely,

Robert J. Jones
Chancellor
