System response to recent federal actions
April 11, 2025 11:27 AM

To the University of Illinois System community:

Across the University of Illinois System, our promise to offer an excellent education includes providing an environment rich with opportunities for global engagement, cross-cultural understanding, and a diverse community from which to learn. Our international students, faculty, and staff are integral to this environment and bring unique perspectives, talents, and experiences that enrich campus life.

While the details are still unfolding, recent federal actions including the revocation of some students’ visas are unsettling. This understandably creates anxiety, frustration, and fear for many across our universities.

The leadership of the University of Illinois System is dismayed by these developments, and we are actively working with our campus leaders, our internal legal counsel, outside legal experts, state and federal partners, and higher education associations to understand the full scope of their impact and to support those affected. Be assured that part of that support is an ongoing commitment and adherence to privacy laws.

We will continue to provide an inclusive and supportive environment for all of our students. Each of our universities has a set of support resources they have shared with their students, faculty, and staff. Please don’t hesitate to access them — we are here for you.

The University of Illinois System will continue to be a beacon of excellence, openness, and opportunity, welcoming the world to our doors.
