I am pleased to report to the University of Illinois community on the progress of the University-wide Climate Survey, which sought the opinions of students, faculty, and staff on matters relating to the campus, workplace, and academic environment.  Since the close of the survey in December 2011, the Survey Research Laboratory (SRL) has been working diligently to process the results, including the thousands of responses to the open-ended questions.   The sheer volume of the data has made the task both worthwhile and challenging.

Thank you to all who participated by taking the survey and sharing your views.

Overall, approximately 17,000 faculty, staff and students responded to the survey, an overall response rate of 16.2%.  The number of responses is gratifying for a baseline study, and will provide us a great deal of information about how climate is viewed at the University of Illinois.  While a higher response rate would have been welcome, SRL's past work indicates the typical student response rate tends to be low so the outcome is not unexpected.  Summary information on the response rates is available on the Climate Survey website.

The Climate Survey data report will be released in the coming weeks.  I am in the process of forming a cross-campus committee, which will meet to consider the results of the data report.

Please continue to check the climate survey website, which will be updated periodically as information is available.  http://www.uillinois.edu/ClimateSurvey/
