Street closures for Homecoming celebration
October 13, 2022 3:43 PM

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 14, we will be closing streets adjacent to Memorial Stadium as we prepare for the Homecoming parade and the WITH I campaign celebration outside of the stadium Friday evening. It is possible you may experience some disruptions to your normal commute, and we want to make sure you are aware of the details so you can plan accordingly.

Friday street closures:

  • Kirby Avenue between First Street and Fourth Street will be closed beginning at noon Friday and remain closed until after the football game on Saturday.
  • First Street between Stadium Drive and Kirby Avenue will be closed beginning at noon Friday and remain closed until after the football game on Saturday.
  • Fourth Street between Kirby Avenue and Gregory Drive will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and will reopen immediately following the Homecoming parade.
  • Gregory Drive between Fourth Street and First Street will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and will reopen immediately following the Homecoming parade.

In addition to those street closures, we will be implementing our normal game-day traffic plans on Saturday for the football game. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. We are expecting a higher level of traffic in the area of Memorial Stadium as we are anticipating increased attendance at the game.

The road closures are for the safety of all visitors, community members and event staff. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we celebrate the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Please visit the Homecoming website for additional details on our weekend slate of Homecoming events and game-day activities. It has been a wonderful Homecoming week so far, and we hope all of our university community members and alumni have an opportunity to enjoy the remaining events.

Sincerely,

Michael DeLorenzo
