OCCURRED:      Sunday, July 28, 2013 @ 4:20 p.m.

LOCATION:         1401 W. Green Street, Urbana (Illini Union)

BRIEF DETAILS:

On Sunday, July 28, 2013 at approximately 4:20 p.m., the victim was sitting in the Illini Union when she was approached by a subject who asked her what time it was.  When the victim looked at her watch, the suspect grabbed her iPad off the table she was sitting at and ran away.  

The suspect is seen on video running out the southwest doors of the Illini Union, meeting up with a second suspect and putting the iPad in a backpack the second suspect is wearing.

OFFENDER DESCRIPTIONS:

Suspect #1 is described as a black male, dark complexion, 19-20 years old, around 6 feet tall with a "high fade" haircut.  This suspect was last seen wearing a white V-neck short sleeve tee shirt, camouflage knee length shorts, dark colored socks with a stripe on the back of them and dark colored "Chuck Taylor" style shoes with white on the bottom and toe area.

Suspect #2 is described as a black male, light complexion, 19-20 years old, short hair.  This suspect was last seen wearing a dark colored short sleeve tee shirt with yellow bands at the bottom of both arms and around the neck.  This shirt also had a design on the back in yellow.  This suspect was wearing dark colored (possibly gray) long pants with cargo pockets on both sides and black athletic shoes and carrying a dark colored back pack at the time of the incident.

POLICE RESPONSE:

The University of Illinois Police Department is working to identify and apprehend the offenders in this case.  Witnesses to this event or those with information are encouraged to contact the University of Illinois Police at 217-333-1216 or Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS (8477).

Members of the campus community are strongly encouraged to follow these safety tips to decrease their potential for becoming a victim:

-Stay alert - call the police immediately to report suspicious activity and/or if this subject is observed.

-Trust your instincts - if it does not feel right, call for help.

-Avoid walking alone at night. Travel in groups when possible and always walk in well-lit, heavily traveled areas.

-Turn down your electronic devices. Excessive volume or use of electronic devices (iPods, PDAs, cell phones, etc.) can distract you from potential safety hazards.

-If you choose to consume alcohol, please drink moderately - remember your ability to respond is diminished by over-consumption of alcohol.
