Dear Members of the Campus Community:

As Chancellor, one of my key objectives and areas of focus is a firm and unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion—affirming the importance of diverse voices, perspectives, experiences, and identities. I invite each of you to join me in making a commitment to being an advocate for an accessible, safe, and respectful living, learning, and working community at Illinois. Inclusive Illinois: one campus, many voices represents the campus' commitment to cultivating a community at Illinois where everyone is welcomed, celebrated, and respected.

On Wednesday, September 25, the Inclusive Illinois Day of Celebration and Commitment will take place as part of I-Unite week. I encourage you to take the time to visit interactive stations throughout campus in colleges, units, and on the South Quad and, most importantly, to make or renew your personal commitment online to the values of diversity and inclusion at Illinois.

This year’s activities will also include a lecture by Dr. Alan Goodman, as part of the Inclusive Illinois Chancellor’s Lecture Series on Diversity and Cultural Understanding. Dr. Goodman is a professor of Biological Anthropology at Hampshire College. He teaches and writes on the health and nutritional consequences of political-economic processes such as poverty, inequality, and racism. His lecture is scheduled on September 25, at 4:00 p.m. in the Alumni Center Ballroom of the Alice Campbell Alumni Center.  For more information, please visit the following link: http://inclusiveillinois.illinois.edu/IIDay_Speaker.html.

Through our shared commitment to diversity and inclusion, we ensure that our campus is a welcoming, safe, and supportive campus community.

Thank you for your commitment.

Sincerely,

Phyllis M. Wise
Chancellor
