Dear Members of the Campus Community:

As you may have heard, a traffic accident yesterday in Urbana killed a student and injured another. In these terrible situations, we normally reach out directly to the people who have been closest to the tragedy, to offer support and assistance. However, this accident happened on a busy street when many people were walking to and from classes. Because we cannot determine who might benefit from our services now, I am reaching out to ensure that everyone knows where to find counselors.

Our Counseling Center staff members are available for walk-in emergency consultations whenever students need them. Students can go to the Counseling Center at 610 East John Street, Champaign, during business hours, or they can call them at 333-3704. After hours, they can reach out to us at 359-4141. Faculty and staff can contact the Faculty/Staff Assistance Program at 244-5312 (fsap@illinois.edu).

Please know that many people on campus are available – year round – to help.

Sincerely,

Renee Romano

Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
