Fellow Students,

Congratulations on the end of another successful semester! As final exams are now underway, we wish you the best of luck and want to update you on the hard work your student government has done for you.

This Fall, the Illinois Student Senate considered over 40 resolutions, all of which improved student life in various ways. Most notably was our push to bring awareness to the growing amount of student debt within our country through our Student Debt Awareness Week. We have continued to work on expanding our iRent Program that provides iClickers at no cost to students each semester. As well as established the Illinois Student Senate New Members Development Program, which is a hands-on leadership program open to all students. 
 
Additionally, we sponsored several initiatives, and sometimes partnered with other campus and University student organizations and departments in doing so. We are proud to note, that the Illinois Student Senate continued its relationship with the Illini Union Board to provide students with fun and engaging activities unique to the Illinois experience. Furthermore, we allocated funds to Facilities and Services to renovate 1.2 miles of campus bike lanes. We also launched our “Tap That” campaign this semester in partnership with the Student Sustainability Committee to equip campus drinking fountains with water bottle filling nozzles.  

Finally, the Illinois Student Senate advanced the students’ legislative agenda at the state capitol in Springfield by advocating for House Bill 2341 in partnership with State Representative Naomi Jakbosson. If passed, the bill will provide Good Samaritan protection to alcohol related incidents on college campuses and throughout Illinois.
