Dear campus community member:

Yesterday, we told you of the tragic death of your fellow student, Vicente Mundo. Many in the U. of I. community have come together to mourn this loss.

Today, we can report to you that police have arrested two men who will be charged with homicide: Daniel Gonzalez, 21, of Cicero, and Reginald Scott, 21, of Champaign. Neither is a current U. of I. student.

The U. of I. Police, Champaign County’s Sheriff’s Office, Champaign Police, Champaign County Coroner, Champaign County State’s Attorney, FBI, and U.S. Marshals Service all worked together in making this arrest. But most importantly, the campus as a whole came together to support each other and ensure that the U. of I. community remains strong through this ordeal.

We know there’s still a long road ahead. The prosecution of these two men will occur over the coming months, and the pain felt by Vicente’s family and friends will never cease. But we hope this news brings some comfort and assurance that these two men are not a danger to others.
