Fellow Students,

This year the Illinois Student Senate has collaborated with the White House, the Women’s Resource Center, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and several student groups to implement the It’s On Us campaign at Illinois. Students across the country have taken the pledge to intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given and work together at creating an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

Throughout the year we have held events on sexual assault, released public service announcements, hosted a Twitter town hall and had more students than almost any other university in the country to sign the It’s On Us pledge. We have been a model of campus sexual assault prevention and engagement for the entire nation.

But we’re not finished. Sexual assault is still a major problem on college campuses and we cannot let our momentum fade with the end of the school year. We must stay strong in our belief that It’s On Us to stop sexual assault. We must do everything we can to stop a sexual assault from happening.

In celebration of our work, to further this message and continue empowering our generation to stop sexual assault, I am proud to announce that the Vice President Joe Biden will join us next Thursday, April 23 for an It’s On Us rally.

Upon the Vice President’s arrival, we will be hosting a renewed pledge drive and will distribute more It’s On Us t-shirts. Check out the Illinois Student Senate Facebook page for more information.

In Orange and Blue,

Mitch Dickey
Student Body President
