Today I am pleased to announce that CITES is changing its name to Technology Services at Illinois.

After consulting with various stakeholders across campus, we chose Technology Services to bring clarity to our role at the University. Students and faculty, particularly those who are new to campus, often found the acronym “CITES” to be difficult to understand. As CITES, one of the most common questions that we received was “What do you do?”

Removing that immediate point of confusion is a crucial first step in transforming Technology Services into an organization focused on meeting the changing technology needs of students and faculty.

Sunsetting “CITES” across campus will take place over the summer.

The ways to contact our Help Desk will not change. You can still call 217-244-7000 or email consult@illinois.edu for assistance. We will launch a new Technology Services website over the summer as well.

I invite you to bring your thoughts and feedback about technology on campus to one of our two Technology Services Town Hall meetings. These events are a chance for you to learn more about the direction and vision of Technology Services at Illinois and have your questions answered.

  • Monday, May 4 in the Illini Union (Room C) from 3:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday, May 6 in the Animal Sciences Lab (Room 150) from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

If you are unable to attend one of these Town Hall meetings, I invite you to share your thoughts and feedback via email by sending a message to techservices@illinois.edu

Enjoy the remainder of your semester, and good luck to students on finals,

Mark D. Henderson
