Dear members of the campus community,

As you know, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has prohibited smoking on campus property since January 1, 2014. Our smoke-free campus policy has contributed to making our campus a healthy place to learn, live and work and has set an example for other colleges and universities in Illinois and beyond.

The State of Illinois’ Smoke-Free Campus Act requires that all state-supported institutions of higher education prohibit smoking on campus as of July 1, 2015.

The act requires that each institution communicate to the campus community and guests the prohibitions on smoking set forth in the act. You can read more about the Smoke-Free Campus Act at: http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts/fulltext.asp?Name=098-0985.

We will be making some modifications to our smoke-free campus policy in accordance with the other requirements in the act.

The campus provides support for smokers who want to quit and for smokers who need help with craving management in order to comply with the smoke-free campus policy.

For additional helpful resources and the campus policy, please visit the smoke-free campus website at http://www.campusrec.illinois.edu/Smoke-Free for more information.

Sincerely,

Phyllis M. Wise
Chancellor
