This morning, Windstream, who provides the phone carrier network for the campus Lync phone service, experienced two major outages that affected their customers throughout the state.

People trying to call in to campus, and campus customers using Lync trying to call off campus, were unable to do so. Lync-to-Lync calls on campus were not affected.

Phone service was temporarily restored at 9:14 a.m. Then at 10:33, Windstream experienced its second regional outage causing the same issues as earlier in the day. At 12:34 p.m. temporary repairs made by Windstream allowed inbound and outbound calls to be made again. Permanent repairs are still in progress.

When the Lync phone service is experiencing issues, Technology Services and UIPD encourage anyone experiencing an emergency to use their cellphone to call 911.

Whenever there are issues with Lync or other IT services, updates will be available at status.illinois.edu.

Thank you for your patience today,
