Dear Colleagues:

In August, the University of Illinois Board of Trustees approved the formal agreement establishing the Carle Illinois College of Medicine in partnership with the Carle Health System. Part of that approval required the completion of four deliverables related to joint research practices and governance. These were completed last week.

Carle and Illinois have taken a significant new step forward in creating the first medical college born at the intersection of engineering and medicine.

The future of human health care depends on revolutionary advances in the life sciences, technology, information and other disciplines in ways no one has even imagined. No other institution in the world is better positioned to start that revolution right now.

The four deliverables completed this week include:

The search committee to select the inaugural dean has been named and we expect the national search to launch within weeks. Committees developing the new curriculum and navigating the Liaison Committee on Medical Education accreditation and Illinois Board of Higher Education approval processes will soon be underway.

Our collective focus is now on recruiting our new college leadership, establishing the groundbreaking curriculum, securing the necessary financial resources and bringing together the faculty and physicians who will teach the first class of students in the fall of 2018.

We are no longer simply designing the first college of its kind. With our Carle partners, we are now immersed in the exciting and hard work of building it.

Thank you for your support.
