Dear U of I community:

The University of Illinois places a high priority on providing our students, faculty, staff, and visitors with a safe, secure environment in which to live, learn, work, and be respected. We demonstrate our commitment to safety and security through strong education and prevention programs to prevent and respond to crimes and other threats to our collective safety and security.

Our most effective safety measures involve you – our students, faculty, and staff – in partnership with campus police and student and faculty services.

To help ensure compliance with new state and federal laws, students, faculty, and staff are expected to participate in a new online training program (mandatory for non-student employees) focusing on preventing discrimination and sexual violence. Please watch for more information from your campus and for training instructions from the University Ethics Officer (ethicsofficer@uillinois.edu).

The new comprehensive program will prepare you to play a significant role in our efforts to maintain and enhance our campuses by taking appropriate precautions, alerting authorities of danger or suspicious behaviors, and by assisting victims in obtaining needed support.

I am making this training a priority on my schedule and request each of you do the same. Thank you for your commitment to the University and to our community.

Sincerely,

Tim Killeen
President
