Dear campus community member:

Last night, Robbie M. Patton turned himself in to the Champaign County Jail. He remains in custody this morning and is expected to be arraigned this afternoon on charges of murder and aggravated battery with a firearm for his alleged role in the Sept. 25 shooting in the 300 block of East Green Street, Champaign.

More information is available from the Champaign Police Department: (http://ci.champaign.il.us/2016/09/29/arrest-made-in-september-25-shooting-investigation/). The investigation is ongoing, as Champaign Police detectives continue to search for information on those involved in the events which led to the shooting. Anyone who witnessed the event or has additional information is asked to contact the Champaign Police Department at police@champaignil.gov or 217-351-4545. We will continue to issue updates on social media and through the news media as significant developments occur.

An arrest alone cannot ever repair the trauma experienced by the victims of this tragic event, and particularly that of Mr. Korchev's family and friends, but we hope this serves as some assurance that authorities are working toward a resolution. We ask that our community members continue to support one another, and we thank you again for being an important part of the safety of our campus and surrounding area.

Sincerely,

Jeff Christensen

Chief of Police

University of Illinois Police Department
