Starting Monday with the closure of Green Street between First Street and Locust Street, work will begin on the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) Project, one of the most ambitious and impactful transportation improvement projects in our community’s history.

The $44M MCORE Project will transform Green, White, and Wright Streets and Armory Avenue over the next four years by better balancing all modes of transportation with complete streets, upgrading infrastructure, and improving connections between the University of Illinois and the cities of Champaign and Urbana.

• MCORE Project 2 will begin March 6 and result in the complete closure of East Green Street to thru traffic until December 2017.
  

• MCORE Project 1 will begin March 13 on Green Street, starting at Wright Street and moving east toward Lincoln Avenue with periodic lane closures anticipated initially.

Not only is the scale of MCORE bigger than typical local street projects, but to meet federal grant funding deadlines, phases of the work must take place even though the University is in session.

While construction will create temporary inconveniences around campus, when completed, MCORE will provide for a more sustainable and connected community that will benefit future generations.
