New student IT essentials

Welcome to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign! As you begin the new semester, Technology Services is here to support you.  

We’ve put together a helpful Technology Student Resource Guide that includes essential tools, services and tips to help you get started. We’ve also included essential resources and events below. Explore our resources and visit our Tech Services website for information to help you succeed.  

  • Browse IT services, get help and find answerto common questions in the Enterprise IT Service Catalog. 
  • Access your university email at https://outlook.office.com/ or via an email application. Enter your NetID@illinois.edu and password to access your email. Visit the Email - How to log in page for more information. 
  • Connect to IllinoisNet Wi-Fi by visiting Connect to Wi-Fi and following the prompts.
  • Access your online courses at Canvas @ Illinois. Use your NetID and password to log in. 
  • Access free and discounted software through the WebStore. Note: Adobe Creative Cloud is free for students until December 31. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Adobe Creative Cloud will be offered at a discounted price.
  • Access Illinois' virtual desktop service, Illinois AnyWare, which provides optimized remote access to software applications wherever you go.
  • Setup your free cloud storage with U of I Box, Google Apps and Microsoft 365 on our Cloud storage essentials page.
  • View your class schedule, general educational requirements and search courses on Course Explorer. 
  • Report suspicious emails to the university’s Cybersecurity team using the Report Spam add-in in Outlook on desktop, web or mobile. For more help reporting suspicious emails, blocking a sender and more, visit this Answers KnowledgeBase article: Reporting spam in Outlook.
