Message from Avijit Ghosh - Updated Social Security Number (SSN) Policy

Dear Colleagues, 

The revised system Social Security Number (SSN) Policy is now available online. The previous version of the policy was written in 2011 and was out of date with both current practice and changes in Illinois legislation. The revision reflects our current practices and procedures and incorporates requirements from the Illinois Identity Protection Act. It also eliminates material no longer relevant and provides clear guidance to units processing SSNs. The newly published policy is based on input from a wide group of stakeholders and was approved by relevant administrators, registrars, and privacy officers at the three universities, the system offices, and the hospital. Questions or assistance with policy implementation can be directed to the SSN Committee (ssn@uillinois.edu).
