Appointment of our next Chief Information Officer
May 23, 2022 10:01 AM

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Mairéad Martin as the next Chief Information Officer at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The appointment will be effective July 1, pending approval by the Board of Trustees. Her title until officially approved will be Interim Chief Information Officer.

Following an extremely competitive and comprehensive search, Ms. Martin emerged as our choice for the next leader of our world-class information and technology services enterprise here at Illinois. She comes to Illinois after serving as Vice President and Chief Information Officer for EDUCAUSE, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that works across higher education to help institutions more effectively utilize information technology to advance educational and scholarly missions. She also has extensive experience working in information technology in a research university environment, having previously served in leadership roles at the University of Wisconsin, Penn State and Tufts University.

With Ms. Martin’s clear strategic vision for advancing IT, her strong record of success in her past leadership roles, her experience with organizational transformation and realignment, her appreciation and experience in shared governance environments and her thoughtful approach to listening, I am confident she will be an outstanding colleague and leader at Illinois.

I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the search committee, chaired by Dean Eunice Santos, for its careful work in recruiting and evaluating an outstanding selection of applicants and in guiding the search process over the past months.

I also want to express my appreciation to Scott Genung, for his dedicated service as our Interim Chief Information Officer since February 2021. Scott’s calm and collaborative leadership in the past year has provided stability for Technology Services and for the university, especially in light of the many and ongoing COVID-19 challenges.

Sincerely,

Andreas C. Cangellaris
