Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to share that Chrystalla Mouza has been selected to serve as the next Dean of the College of Education. Mouza’s appointment will begin August 15, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. Her title until officially approved will be Dean of the College of Education Designate. Mouza is currently the Director & Distinguished Professor in the School of Education and a Professor of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Delaware. An accomplished scholar, researcher and innovator in educational technology, Mouza’s work has focused in the areas of learning sciences and teacher learning, applications of technology in K-12 classrooms, teaching and learning outcomes in ubiquitous and mobile computing environments and computer science education. Her expertise in forging interdisciplinary collaborations will help the College of Education enhance existing areas of excellence and expand partnerships and growth opportunities. Mouza has received multiple awards, including the 2010 Distinguished Research in Teacher Education Award from the Association of Teacher Educators. A first-generation college graduate, she received her bachelor of arts in elementary education from the University of Ioannina, Greece and earned master of arts, master of education and doctor of education degrees in instructional technology and media from Teachers College, Columbia University. Mouza has a clear vision for advancing our College of Education, a strong record of success in her past leadership roles, an enthusiasm about the opportunity to bolster the College’s excellence in teaching and engagement and a proven record of research. I want to thank James Anderson for serving as the Dean of the College of Education for the past five years. Anderson is a celebrated Illinois leader, faculty member and researcher, and I wish him well on his retirement. I also want to thank Professor Michaelene Ostrosky for serving as Interim Dean until Mouza begins her appointment. Please join me in welcoming Chrystalla Mouza to campus. Sincerely, Andreas C.
