Skype to Teams Transition July 2023
June 26, 2023 2:02 PM

University telephone numbers will be moved from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams through July 19. The move is necessary because Microsoft is retiring Skype for Business.

What does this mean for you?

When your phone number is moved to Microsoft Teams, you will automatically be logged out of Skype for Business. The transition could take up to 50 minutes. Afterward, all your phone calls, voicemails, and chat messages will automatically open in Teams. You may need to restart your device(s). Skype for Business will remain on your device after the migration, but you will not be able to sign in. Your local IT department will work to uninstall Skype for Business. More information about what to expect after the transition is available online.

Though some customers will still be on Skype for Business while others have transitioned to Microsoft Teams, you can make phone calls between systems. There will be impacts to status, chat, and video conferencing until everyone is on Teams.

When will my phone number transition to Microsoft Teams?

A transition timeline is available on the Skype to Teams Transition web page. Your unit will contact you with the final date your phone number will be migrated.

What can I do to prepare?

Information about getting started and essential resources can be found on the Microsoft Teams page.
